British Cadet Championships - Mote Park - April 2010
Last weekend two of our younger skaters competed in the British Cadet Championships held at Mote Park.
This was an eagerly awaited event, and attracted 17 entries, all of whom had qualified by passing their Bronze standard dance tests.
Dances were the Denver Shuffle and Kent Tango. Both our skaters - Samanatha Leslie and Atlanta Beck - looked lovely in their dance outfits, with Sam choosing a soft yellow dress with black lace and diamonte trim, whilst Atlanta chose cerise pink with chilffon skirt, and silver diamonte trim. There was also a Polka OSP to be performed and this was skated on the second day of the competition.
Sam's polka was beautifully executed and she tells us she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Atlanta also skated extremely well and she too was pleased with her performance. Although our Kent girls were not on the rostrum this time we are very proud of them.
Good luck Sam when you compete in Pieris, Italy, at the end of May. Jackie.
West Berkshire Competition - Newbury - March 2010
Congratulations to Anna, Richard, Emma, Katie, Abygail, Shona, September, who all won Trophies/Gold medals at West Berks (Anna and Richard won TWO), and to Atlanta, Shona, Abygail (x2), and Karen who won Bronze medals as well. All the hard work pays off.
Worthy mentions also go to Sam. and Emma who were 4th in other events.
Gorgeous little Caitlyn (Lucy's daughter), kept in time with the music by kicking her little feet to the beat!
It was a good day but freezing cold !!
FARS Spring Solo - Haywards Heath - February 2010
Gold went to Emma AB for her beautifully performed OSP in the Senior event. Richard won silver in the Senior dance event and Emma was placed 5th having reached the final. Our Senior Team, consisting of Katie, Emma and Richard, also won a silver medal. An excellent result for two of our Novice skaters, Shona and Abygail who won silver.
Shona also won Bronze for her solo dance and Abygail was placed 5th, both having achieved this result from 30 skaters who competed in that comp. In the adult event Karen AB took home a silver medal and together with partner Katie was placed 4th in the Classic duo event. Samantha and Atlanta got through to the semi-final in the Bronze category but September wasn't well and couldn't compete. Fantastic results for our skaters at this prestigious annual event..Well done all of you. Next stop West Berks in March.
Pieris - May 2009
We arrived in Italy early afternoon to a temperature of 34 degrees and apart from a short spate of rain, it remained like that for the four days.
We stayed at a better hotel this time and were made very welcome there and the food was much better than last time.
Richard's first practice went well and he remained confident throughout his competition. Unfortunately the men's event was small and both Richard and myself would have preferred a bigger entry, having travelled a long way to do this competition. His marks on both the Quickstep and Westminster Waltz were good and not that far behind Mateo - who is a well known skater in Italy having placed in the Cup of Europe last year.
Following another good performance with his freedance, Richard ended up in second position.
I also 'looked after' Guernsey skater Nicola Roland, who was in the Senior ladies event.
The trip was very enjoyable with a good social atmosphere and with a large entry in most other events it was a chance for some of the younger skaters to see some really good skating in an International event.
